This isn’t exactly “new” to other people, but I never noticed it until my new computer was set up with Warcraft and I was able to play on Ultra quality.
It showed up as part of the Cataclysm stuff – this was one of the zones affected by the Shattering. I’m also curious about why there’s a giant, stagnant tornado up in Darkshore, I never saw the Alliance side of things to see if there’s any story to that, either.
The volcano that’s in Ashenvale also came in that set, and has a reasonable in-game storyline around it, as does the bizarre skidmark/terrain mess out in Badlands.
Judging by the elevation, it looks like this hole is sucking water from the ocean.

Oh, in-game story. I really ought to get onto questing. I’d learn so much!
haha, whatever it is – it looks cool!
That was what I thought when I flew over it! Haha!
I was curious about the STV one as well – thinking it might be similar to the Darkshore one. It’s not
I wrote about the Maw of the Void in Darkshore a while ago, it’s an interesting spot to visit, even for Horde
Hmmm apparently a trip to Darkshore is in order!
It’s a pretty death trap. Which I suppose is the best kind.
If you have to die via whirlpool, it had better be pretty.
Go to the Darkshore whirlpool and jump in, it’ll be a fun surprise!
I SHALL. *salutes*
